Lookin’ Out My Back Door

I thought this was going to be a quick post to bring all my faithful fans up to speed on the building progress, but then I realized my last post had nothing to do with construction – it was all about our first visitors. So naturally I need to provide an update there:

  • The woodpecker realized there was nothing on our house worthy of repeatedly banging his head, so he retreated to the sappy pines of our woods. We still hear him occasionally.
  • Our robin’s eggs were safely swaddled in the trailer for two weeks, but sadly never hatched. We see Mama Robin daily, pecking around our yard.
  • And, to be honest, it’s hard to say what happened to Prince Paddy’s polliwogs. They’ve probably grown legs by now and leap-frogged the confines of Lake Magnolia (the extremely accurate, unembellished name we’ve given our tiny, marsh-like pond). I will say, we haven’t heard croak from Prince Paddy in weeks. His mud puddle dried up and he bounced, leaving behind hundreds of offspring. Typical amphibian!

As far as the house goes, we’ve been making excellent progress! And by we, I mean Tache made excellent progress while I was on vacation in Michigan (see pics below). I came home to find the house had windows! And let me tell you… this house has some windows! Twenty-nine to be exact; in comparison, my Denver house had seven. SEVEN. That’s quite the window ownership upgrade! Tache also worked some leveling magic to plumb in our large four-pane living room windows and doors. I’m telling you, these doors bring a whole new joy to CCR’s Lookin’ Out My Back Door.

Tambourines and elephants are playin’ in the band
Won’t you take a ride on the flyin’ spoon? Dood-n-doo-doo
Wonderous apparition provided by magician
Doo, doo, doo, lookin’ out my back door

There’s a giant doin’ cartwheels, a statue wearin’ high heels
Look at all the happy creatures dancin’ on the lawn
Bother me tomorrow, today I’ll buy no sorrows
Doo, doo, doo, lookin’ out my back door

Summer is now in full swing, so we’re also squeezing in some fun while working on the house. Crabbing season has been a success; concerts on the dock are rocking (see PT Leader front page photo of yours truly – and I mean reallllly look hard); and BBQs on the beach are the best way to pass the evenings. Tache’s heavy metal guitarist friend is in town from LA, helping with all the shit Tache doesn’t want to do on his own. They poured the footings and framed in our covered storage area – accessible via our real back back door.

There’s constant banging coming from the house, so I know they’re working on things. I just can’t tell exactly what it is. Tache calls it pick-up work. So if you know what that is, then you know what they’ve been doing. The biggest news is that we passed a major inspection: exterior shear approved! This means we can cover the outside of the house and start on the next phase.

Stay tuned… because the next post is going to be electrifying (hint, hint)!

Two things. Amazing looking at vs looking out my back door puns really spoke to me. And whoa…never actually paid attention to the lyrics to that song and I think they were on some serious drugs (and good for them)! Love all the progress. Exciting! Can’t wait to be electrified.

HAH! Yea, I didn’t know all the lyrics until I looked them up… major drug use, but look how happy they are in the video!!
