The Innards

INNARDS

  1. the internal organs of a human being or animal
  2. the internal parts especially of a structure or mechanism

According to Tache, I talk too much about the first definition of innards and the subsequent movements they create. Therefore, I will avoid discussing that here with you all today. (You’re welcome.) Instead, I’d like to share all the details of our house innards. And by that I mean electrical and plumbing – the internal parts of the house that we will likely (and hopefully!) never see again once they are covered with insulation, drywall, paint, and artwork. Or, if you’d like to describe a house using the first definition: fat, skin, lotion, and jewelry. Whoa, this took a weird turn…

This step of the building process has been tedious and time-consuming. There’s been a lot of talking, planning, and discussing (not arguing!) about the most strategic and practical location to flip a light switch. And not to circle back to my intestinal activities, but there were numerous conversations about which direction the toilet should face. Don’t fret – we figured it out. Multiple hundreds of holes were drilled through studs, joists, and floors that were constructed not so long ago. All to allow these vital innards to bring life to our house.

And to think all this hard work will be covered up and never seen again… but oh how we will love these innards when they do what they’re supposed to do!

Hot and cold water will flow freely to our sinks and showers! I honestly cannot believe I lived on Teal for a year without hot water… if Tache ever questions my love, please remind him of this fact!

Drains and waste water pipes will send the aforementioned movements into the septic system!

Electrical lines running throughout the house will bring us the convenience of modern-day illumination!

Thermostat wires are connected to our in-floor heating system, eagerly waiting to provide us with a homely warmth we haven’t felt for years!

Vents and fans have been installed in the bathrooms and the laundry room to remove the condensation I have become so accustomed to while living on boats and in trailers!

The washer and dryer hook-up is installed!! I have no words to express the joy this brings me. I can see the light at the bottom of the dirty clothes pile… soon I will not need to spend my free time at Mom’s Laundry Mat!!

We’ve made decisions about the location of a custom-made chandelier, our outside lighting for the front porch and decks, and a plan for the hot tub and outdoor shower. Plus there’s probably so much more Tache has done that I don’t even know about.

Here are some very exciting pictures of our house INNARDS!

We’ve also managed to have some fun this summer with my parents coming to visit, my sister’s birthday, a trip to Colorado to see friends and Nathaniel Rateliff at Red Rocks, THING festival, and of course days on (and in!) the water. The nights are getting cooler and it’s sad to think summer might be coming to an end. What’s not sad is thinking that next summer I will be in our house… with my very own washer and dryer!!
