Abbie, our realtor, calls them love letters. Love letters to the current property owners from the want-to-be future property owners. It feels like we’ve written quite a few in the past, always to no avail. But, for the first time ever, it actually worked! Yesterday we received word that our offer was accepted!
Here is our love letter to our future property.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Spear,
Given the unprecedented times we are living through right now, Tache and I were not planning on making any major life decisions. We were carrying out our civic duty by isolating at home – just being thankful that we have our health, each other and a place to call home. This home of ours is a boat, and let me tell you, this boat we once thought was large has grown smaller and smaller each week of the pandemic.
So small in fact, it led us to browse the local real estate listings last weekend. Before COVID, we had talked of buying land. Tache is a local contractor and we’ve often imaged what it would be like if we could find the perfect plot of land to build a dream home. We’ve always gravitated towards Cape George because of the marina and amenities the community has to offer. And given our last few years as live aboards, thoughts of a huge yard for the dog, a garden to grow our own vegetables and a surrounding forest for privacy have become necessities of this dream.
And then, last weekend, while isolating aboard our small dinghy, we saw your property listing. We immediately drove over to 23 Magnolia and fell in love. And now, as you see, we are making a major life decision. We hope to build a house with a large porch overlooking the garden. We hope to bring a few of Tache’s boats over to the marina so we can sail or fish on a moment’s notice. We hope this plot of land can make our dream a reality.
